13: Getting Out of a Rut

13: Getting Out of a Rut

When I sat down to record this episode, I was feeling in a bit of a funk.  As I talked about in episode 12, I was not feeling well when I recorded last week’s episode, and that continued into this week’s episode. Using the sleep tracker app, I was at an average of about 60% most nights last week. By the time the end of the week was here, I felt frustrated. One thing that I frequently have to remind myself of is just because I feel like I am not doing too well, does not mean that I am not doing well.  So, I feel like I vented a bit on this episode.  But, I think doing so gave me the clarity and perspective I needed to pull myself out of the rut I felt that I was in.

Because there is about a week delay from the time I hit record until the time I write the show notes and upload the episode, it creates the opportunity for me to take perspective.  I am writing this on Friday, May 30, and I am glad to report that this has been a very good week for me in terms of managing my ADHD.  The result of this has been that I have been more productive and have worked less hours, allowing me to spend more time with my family and get better sleep.

Sleep Update

I had 3 nights this week that I got a Sleep Quality percentage in the 80’s. It makes such a big difference.  I recently upgraded my sleep cycle app to allow me to access my data on their website.  They just brought the price down to $0.99.  Click here or go to the bottom of the page for a screenshot to give you a real inside view of how I’ve slept for about the last 2 weeks.

I was interviewed on another Podcast

I was recently interviewed by Kathy Kelly with the Special Mouse Podcast.  This is a podcast focused on helping individuals and families with special needs travel to Disney.  Talk about focused!!!  Kathy and I talk about challenges of being an adult with ADHD, and she gives me some tips for my upcoming trip to Orlando for the ADDA conference. Click here to listen to the interview.

If you like this podcast, I think you will also really like Beyond The To Do List with Erik Fisher.  It’s one of my top 5 favorite podcasts.  He also asked listeners to email him if there is anyone who should be on his show. Help me get on his show so I can talk to his audience.  I have a hunch there is a lot of undiagnosed ADHD in his tribe.  I’d love to be able to give people the “oh that’s what ADHD is” moment, and help put people on a path of a better life.

Tech Tip(s) of the week:

Add visual elements using the Emoji keyboard. Once you download the Emoji keyboard, you will need to install it from your settings.  Click here for screenshots to setup your visual keyboard.  There are a lot of different apps for this, and they all pretty much do the same thing.  I use this one. The one to the side was the most popular one in the app store at the time I put this together.

Adding pictures is just one of the things I do in my calendar to make it pop.  This screen shot is of Calendars 5 annotated with Skitch.
